Ryan Zimmerman to the DL, Trea Turner to the Nats

The Washington Nationals have placed 1B Ryan Zimmerman on the fifteen day disabled list.  Zimmerman has been bothered swinging the bat.

Replacing Zimmerman on the roster will be super prospect Trea Turner and OF Michael Taylor.  The way it looks now, 2B Daniel Murphy will shift to first base, while Turner will take over at second base.  Turner has batted .302 at AAA Syracuse with 22 doubles, 8 triples, and 6 homers.  He has a .470 slugging percentage and a .371 on base percentage.  Turner was up at the big league level earlier this season and went 3 for 3 at the plate.

The Nationals also recalled OF Michael Taylor.  Taylor was optioned to Syracuse on July 4.  In 60 games this season, Taylor is batting .225 with 10 doubles and 6 home runs with a .372 slugging and .278 on base  percentage.  He has struggled at the plate most recently, collecting just 2 hits in his last 18 at bats.

Other News:  Max Scherzer has replaced Stephen Strasburg in the All Star Game.  Strasburg was an easy selection, posting a perfect 11-0 record with a 2.71 ERA.  However, he just came off the disabled list for an upper back strain.  The Nats want to be cautious with the back strain.  Although Strasburg will attend, Scherzer will pitch in his place.  Scherzer is having a fine season himself, posting a 9-6 record with a 3.21 ERA and leading the National League with 155 strikeouts.
