Redskins Smoke Signals: Your Thursday news clippings

Redskins smoke signals brings you the news today on the Washington Redskins.

First, you can talk Redskins with us right here.  Second, don’t forget to vote in the poll on the main page for the Best Ever Redskins Inside Linebacker.

CNNSI takes a look at the position of Safety.  Along with defensive line, I can’t think of a more weaker positions the Redskins must address.  The patch job that has been done at Safety for the past few seasons has been an utter failure.

CSN notes that Chris Burke’s mock draft has the Redskins drafting a quarterback in the third round.  Makes sense.  First, the Redskins may be looking at another franchise tag for Kirk Cousins, and second, does anyone really think Nate Sudfield is going to be an NFL quarterback?  The mock also has the Redskins taking Vols DE Derek Barnett.  As a Vols fan myself that had the pleasure of watching Barnett break Reggie’s White’s school record in sacks, I am great with that pick.   You can see over 150 mock drafts right here.  We have a separate Redskins column.

Redskins made the Torrian Gray hire official yesterday. He will have his task cut out for him as the new Defensive Backs coach.

Hogs Haven takes a look at the Redskins offensive line.  The Line itself is pretty set, outside left guard.  Redskins need an upgrade beside Trent Williams and need to lock Morgan Moses up to a long term deal at right tackle.  Trent Williams named to Top 101 players list by Pro Football Focus.

Emmanual Benton argues that a wide receiver overhaul could benefits the Redskins.  I do not disagree with the concept of the article, but still hope to see Pierre Garcon inked to a long term deal.  Garcon brings the grit, hard work, and work ethic that can’t be coached.  Additionally, with young receivers like Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson, and Maurice Harris, there is not better role model than Garcon for the young receivers.  As far as we know, both veteran wide receivers could depart Washington.

Pro Football Focus ranked RB Robert Kelley as the fourth best rookie running back.

Bleacher Report makes their call on Redskins current free agents. Agree on all but Donte Whitner.  Agree with Garcon over Jackson.  Agree on resigning Cousins, Vernon Davis, and Chris Baker.  However, I say let Whitner walk and upgrade Safety.  You can check out this review of Vernon Davis and his 2016 season.

Mark Bullock takes a look at potential upgrades at Inside Linebacker in free agency.
