The National Football League released its 2016 preseason schedule today, meaning we know what teams the Washington Redskins will play and, roughly, when.
We know the games by the week of the preseason, but we do not yet have exact dates or times for most preseason games. Here is what we do know:
WEEK 1 — Washington @ Atlanta on August 11-15
WEEK 2 — NY Jets @ Washington on August 18-22
WEEK 3 — Buffalo @ Washington on August 25-28
WEEK 4 — Washington @ Tampa Bay on September 1
The first week features Washington’s first preseason match against the Falcons since 2004. Washington played the Falcons last season, losing in overtime. The Skins make their preseason home debut against the Jets in week two, marking the tenth preseason game between the two teams, though they have not played each other since 2010. Washington lost badly to the Jets in the regular season last year.
The Skins host the Bills in week three, the second time in the last four years that has happened. Washington defeated Buffalo in the preseason 30-7 in 2013, but, more importantly, bested the Bills 35-25 in week 15 last season. The preseason concludes for Washington in week four with a visit to play the Buccanneers. The two teams met in four straight preseason finales from 2011-2014, each game a win for Washington. The Skins also played Tampa in the regular season last year, with QB Kirk Cousins leading Washington to a franchise-record comeback from a 24-0 deficit.
Specific times for all games will be determined at a later date. All four games will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet.
