We have been following it all day in our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/244801332528506/?ref=group_browse_newGroup, that’s where we provide the latest. The Redskins have signed nine players to their practice squad. Here is the list.
RB Mack Brown
WR Kendall Thompson
G Nili Kasitata
FB Joe Kerridge
WR Maurice Harris
T Vinston Painter
G Isaiah Williams
LB Lynden Trail
DL Matt Iaonodisis
Notable: Redskins released veteran TE Logan Paulsen, who subsequently signed with the Bears. Paulsen became expendable with the positive play of veteran Vernon Davis. Davis not only showed positives in the receiving game, but also in blocking. Paulsen was simply not able to gain traction over Davis. Despite a 149 yard effort in the final preseason game, Mack Brown was not able to hammer down a final 53 roster slot. Fortunately, he landed on the Redskins practice squad for now. It came down to the Redskins wanting to carry three quarterbacks, and this a roster spot for rookie QB Nate Sudfield. Fact is, Robert Kelly’s blocking skills and ability to pick up the blitz won him the job over Brown.
The surprise cut for me was veteran Cullen Jenkins, signed last week. In his only preseason action, he recorded a tackle for and a Sack. The Redskins defensive front is fluid at best, but they decided to go younger with Undrafted rookie Anthony Lanier winning the final roster spot on the front.
DeSahazor Everett made the roster. That is evidence of special teams play being paramount for backup roster spots. Redskins fans also ally got to say goodbye to OL Josh LeRibeus as the Redskins instead chose backup C Austin Reiter for the final slot on the offensive line.
