The Washington Nationals remain red hot during spring training, including a 7-0 shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals today, 7-0.
Tanner Roark continues to easily prove that’s he has a lock on the final rotation slot, tossing five shutout innings and scattering just six hits, while fanning three. Although he allows base runners in most innings, he managed to battle his way out unscathed. On the spring, Roark is 2-0 with a terrific 0.64 ERA. Through 14 total innings, he has allowed just 1 run, on 14 hits and 13 strikeouts. Felipe Rivero, Sean Burnett, Matt Belisle, and Aaron Laffey completed the shutout from the bullpen.
Offensively, Ryan Zimmerman hit his second home run of the spring. Michael Taylor continued his story book spring, going 2 for 3 at the plate and driving in two runs. Taylor is not batting .500 on the spring, collecting 20 hits on 40 plate appearances. Matt den Dekker also contributed 2 hits on the day. The Nationals scored three runs in the fourth and sixth innings.
The Nats improved to a major league leading 16-4 on the spring. They face the Atlanta Braves tomorrow at 1:05.
