The Washington Nationals made another move to fortify the bullpen, acquiring left handed reliever Marc Rzepczynski from the Oakland As ion exchange for Single A prospect Max Schrock. After trading lefty Felipe Rivero to Pittsburgh for closer Mark Melancon, the Nationals needed a left-hander to bolster the pen.
Rzepczynski, who is 30 years old, has appeared in 56 appearances this season. He has posted a 1-0 record and recorded a 3.00 ERA. Left handed batters have hit just .225 off him over his 8 year career, but this year they are batting .296. That is compared to allowing a .226 average against right handed batters this season. Over 36 innings, Rzepczynski has struck out 37 and allowed 24 walks.
In exchange, the Nationals sent 2015 13th pick, Max Schrock, to the A’s. Between Hagerstown and Potomac this season, Schrock was batting .333 and led the Nationals organization in several statistical categories.
