Caps Clinch Division and Eastern Conference

The Washington Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-2 tonight and with that win, clinched the Metropolitan Division Championship and the Eastern Confernece title.  With still ten games left in the regular season, the Capitals have assured themselves of the top seed in the Eastern Conference, improving to an impressive 52-15-5 and earning their 109th standing point.  The closest to the Caps is the Dallas Stars with 95 standing points.

The Caps got goals from Mike Richards, Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom, and TJ Oshie tonight in Ottawa.  Braden Holtby stopped 28 of 30 shots to earn his 44th win, improving overall to 44-9-4. Ovechkin’s tally was his 43rd goal of the season.
